Keira Knightly is a bankable name and was named as a favorite for the role of submissive and innocent 22-year-old Anastasia Steele, but the British actress has been very clear on her stance and that she would definitely not play the virginal college girl who is seduced by Christian Grey. 

“Absolutely not!” exclaimed Knightly in reaction to her playing Anastasia Steele, “Just from what I’ve heard – f**k no! The hardest thing to capture about love is the actual physical intimacy between two people. The way two people behave when they are next to each other and touching each other. That’s a difficult thing to capture on film.”

After working on an emotionally intense movie like Anna Karenina, Keira is looking for something a little more light-hearted and less intense.

“I wanted to do something happy and positive and just to have a break from that,” said Knightly. It looks like doing an emotionally taxing role like Anastasia Steele is definitely not something the 27-year-old actress wants to be involved in.

Elizabeth Olsen is another actress whose name has been linked with the part of Anastasia Steele, but she’s also denied rumors about her connection to the role.

“No! No! No!” replied Olsen when asked about playing Anastasia Steele, “But it’s had a huge impact on society. Apparently rope sales have skyrocketed because women who’ve read the book are really getting into bondage, which is kind of great. It’s such a taboo for women to actually discuss sexuality without the help of Cosmopolitan.”

The list of potential actresses for Anastasia Steele remains extensive. Alexis Bledel and Twilight star Ashley Greene have hot the top spots in recent votes, with Harry Potter’s Emma Watson running not too far behind. While Keira and Elizabeth want nothing to do with Anastasia Steele, there are plenty of suitable candidates who are dying to get the role, do we have no concerns about finding the perfect Anastasia Steele.

Fifty Shades of Grey may have been based originally on the Twilight books, but E.L. James has made it clear that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are going nowhere near Anastasia and Christian in the movie adaptation of the books.

According to E.L. James, having Kristen and Robert in the roles of Anastasia and Christian would be “weird” and the author has been pretty obvious in being grossed out by the consideration.

So who would be a better option to take on the roles of Anastasia and Christian? With the epic success of the erotic trilogy, it’s understandable that every single actor under 30 (or even over 30 in the case of Angelina Jolie) wants the role of Anastasia and Christian. The movie doesn’t even have a screenwriter yet it’s the most talked about production of the decade! Anyone can tell the movie that will tell the world the story of Anastasia and Christian on the big screen is going to be a smash hit. We have no idea who’ll get the much-coveted roles of Anastasia and Christian, but it won’t be RPatz and KStew, that’s for sure.

Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester may need to don a pair of blue contact lenses to cover up those big brown eyes of her, but she would also make an excellent choice to play Anastasia Steele. Meester has already done the relationship with young billionaires with strange fetishes in Gossip Girl already and most definitely has the acting chops to pull off a role like Anastasia Steele.
